Bob Danley of KLYQ's Bitterroot Outdoor Journal had information on some of the Christmas Bird Counts, organized by the Audubon Society. The counts take place throughout the country between December 14 to January 5. The Stevensville Bird Count will be December 28, meeting at the Stevensville Ranger Station on Stevensville's Main Street. Dave Lockman is organizing it again at 381-7679. The Missoula count is December 14, with Larry Weeks as your contact at The NinePipes National Wildlife Refuge count near Ronan is December 15, with Jim Oakes at 406-270-7826. The Hamilton counts are not yet determined. We'll let you know as soon as we know.

The weekly Journal report feature this week was a Laysen Albatross named Wisdom, who has again returned to Midway Island. It's been doing that for at least 69 years! Albatross are marine birds, spending at least 90 percent of their year flying over the Pacific Ocean. Looking for Christmas gifts for your birding friend or relative. You can find some "spendy" binoculars, rated by experts, at Audubon Binocular Guide online. The Bitterroot Outdoor Journal is heard Wednesday mornings during the 7:30 a.m. Bitterroot Morning newscast in Hamilton on 1240 KLYQ AM.
