The 15th Annual "Can the Cats - Can the Griz" food drives showed impressive gains from last year, but the Bozeman effort came out on top.

Bozeman and Missoula use the drives to fill area food banks, with the winner announced at the annual football "Brawl of the Wild." The Missoula "Can the Cats" drive netted 121,609 pounds of food and over $78,000 for the Missoula Food Bank, according to Kathy Tanner of MSU Office of Activities and Engagement. That topped Bozeman's 2013 total. But Bozeman rallied with a record 171,000 pounds of food this year and $74,000 in cash for the Gallatin Valley Food Bank.

For the Missoula crew, they essentially doubled last year's canned food total and their cash donations were higher than Bozeman's .... but ... the winner again this year is Bozeman and the MSU community.

Of course, the real winners are the families who benefit from the Missoula and Bozeman food banks. In Gallatin Valley alone, 1,600 families will be served this holiday.
