The Corvallis Blue Devil volleyball team suffered an early loss in the State Class A tournament and had to work through the loser-out bracket to reach the Championship game Saturday in Bozeman.

And the team that outscored them on Thursday also prevailed on Saturday. Columbia Falls picked up their first state title in 19 years with a score of 3-0 against Corvallis in the last game of the Class A volleyball teams this season.

The Blue Devils played a lot of volleyball this weekend. They defeated Hardin in their first tourney game Thursday, then fell to Columbia Falls in the evening matchup 3-1. Friday, the Corvallis girls pounded Whitefish 3-0, then Billings Central 3-1 to get into a Saturday game against Butte Central, whom they edged with a 3-2 score in five hard-fought sets.

That took them to the Championship game with a well-rested Columbia Falls team, who won the title. Corvallis had a second-place finish in State A volleyball.

In Class B volleyball action, also in Bozeman, the Florence Falcons placed fourth in State. They lost to Colstrip Thursday 3-1, then played three games on Friday, beating Fairfield 3-0 and Thompson Falls 3-1, but falling to Colstrip 3-2 Friday for a finish in fourth place. Red Lodge was Class B champion this year.
