Wow! Amazing Private Island for Sale in Flathead Lake
Ryan of Smith and Nelson at 94.9 KYSS-FM shows off a Flathead island.
Have you ever played that game where you close your eyes and imagine the fanciest of places you would like to live? What would make up the dream house that you would love to someday call home? After seeing photos of this place you might not ever be able to play that game again! I feel like this property will now be the only thing I will ever see when I try to picture the ideal living situation.
If you're in the market for upgrading your current space, might I interest you in your own private island consisting of 348 acres, the main home, a guest villa, a boat dock with five slips, almost three miles of shoreline, and an underground shooting range? All that and more can be yours if you're willing to drop $72 million for Cromwell Island in Flathead Lake. I hate to come across as being too picky as I think about it more, but the interior of the home is unfinished and I just wouldn't have the time to finish it.....so I'm going to pass on this one and let someone else have a shot at the dream of owning their own island. Ha!
Why is the Montana property for sale?
Cromwell Island was purchased in the late 1980s by Robert M. Lee, a renowned automobile and antique arms collector, explorer, author, and conservationist. Before his death in 2016, Mr. Lee and his wife, Anne, partially completed construction of a monumental structure including over 45,000 square feet of living space that was to serve as their home full-time. Even in its unfinished state, it has a magnitude of presence reminiscent of Versailles.
The details of the island are pretty amazing:
- Billed as the largest wholly-owned private island west of the Mississippi
- 40% of the island is forested
- The villa is 45,000+ square feet
- Designed to have 3-4 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms but the interior was never finished and could be redesigned
- Backup generators can produce off-grid power for 8-12 weeks
- 30k-40k gallons of water storage buried under The Villa
- A boat dock with five slips and room for a yacht up to 70 feet
- Underground shooting range that accommodates targets up to 100 yards
This is one of my favorite parts of the purchase
Included in the sale is a custom-built barge that routinely carried eight concrete trucks at a time during the construction of the buildings on the island. It isn't every day that you get a barge included in the purchase of your new property!
Get the rest of the story
It's pretty interesting to read some of the finer details about what certain parts of The Villa are modeled after and what materials were used during construction. You can see more information about the property as well as view more pictures at the Hall and Hall Partners, LLP website HERE.
