Fun City-County Basketball Game Delivers Fitness
Friday evening, two teams of volunteer athletes played a shortened basketball game at the new Daly Elementary School gym in Hamilton as the Hamilton city - Ravalli County teams challenged each other. The players were all members of either Ravalli County or Hamilton city governments. The game was part of a Winter Wellness program promoted by the MSU Extension Service in Hamilton.
It was a "game for the ages," since both teams had representatives of most ages on the roster. Some had played basketball before - others obviously had not. The county team outscored the city team, but the main result of the game was about an hour of physical exercise, a goal of the Winter Wellness plan. There were some standouts during the two 20-minute periods, but KLYQ wants to spotlight a few performances: Best 3-point shot - County Commissioner Jeff Burrows; best air-ball - County Commissioner Greg Chilcott; best "blazing-fast" action - the Hamilton firemen; best "acting" award for a foul - Greg Chilcott; best benchwarmer - Hamilton Mayor Dominic Farrenkopf; best cheerleader - Katelynn Anderson of Extension Service; and the hardest worker at the game - the lone referee. Most importantly is that all the players survived! (see photo below) Mayor Farrenkopf hoped the event would become an annual affair. Good job, teams!
