The Montana Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks has set up free vessel safety checks throughout the state to kick off "National Safe Boating Week."

The free session in Missoula will be at Gull Boats and RV from 10am to 4pm Saturday May 19 at 2601 West Broadway.

The Us Coast guard Auxiliary is helping in the inspections and boaters will learn about aquatic invasive species, how inflatable lifejackets work and how to properly fit a life jacket.

And, if you have a used life jacket, you'll be able to contribute it to the FWP life jacket loaner program.

Liz Lodman said in a news release, "Safe boating practices and the lifesaving value of wearing a life jacket are what the North American Safe Boating Campaign is about...Ready, Set, Wear it!"
