Hamilton Council Divided on 90-Minute Parking
A proposed ordinance eliminating 90-minute parking limits in downtown Hamilton narrowly passed its first reading at the city council.
After discussion of the effectiveness of the 90-minute rule, the council split three to three. Al Mitchell, Jenny West and Rod Pogashar voting to keep the time limit and Joe Petrusaitis, Ken Bell and Kristi Bielski voting to adopt the ordinance instituting free parking.
Mayor Jerry Steele broke the tie by voting for the ordinance and free parking.
The ordinance will go through a second reading at the Hamilton council's April 21 meeting. If it passes, the law will go into effect 30 days later. If it fails, the 90-minute parking time limit will remain in effect.
