Hamilton Loses To Polson at Western Basketball Divisional
In the first day for the boys of the Western Class A High School Divisional Basketball Tournament in Butte, the Hamilton Broncs lost a close game against the Polson Pirates.
The Broncs jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and was ahead by 9 points, 15 to 6, at the beginning of the second period. However, the Pirates closed the gap in an evenly matched quarter and trailed by 6 at the Half, Hamilton 23 - Polson 17. The scoring gap continued through the third period and Hamilton was still ahead by 6 as the fourth quarter began, 33 to 27. However, in the fourth quarter, Polson tied the score with only minutes left and a last-second Bronc scoring attempt failed, with Polson winning the game 40 to 37.
The loss takes Hamilton into a loser-out game against the Libby Loggers at 10 a.m. Friday. Libby lost to Frenchtown in the first game of the tournament. KLYQ will have the live play-by-play of the Friday morning contest on 1240 AM Radio, at www.klyq.com and on that free KLYQ on your cellphone.
The other teams in the Western Divisional are the Frenchtown Broncs, the Libby Loggers, the Ronan Chiefs, the Butte Central Maroons, the Columbia Falls Wildcats and the Dillon Beavers. Four teams will advance to the Class A State Tournament in March.
The rest of the bracket Thursday has Ronan against Butte Central at 4 pm and Dillon versus Columbia Falls at 7 p.m.
Both boys and girls games are being played at the Butte tournament this weekend. KLYQ will attempt to carry play-by-play of all the Hamilton games through Saturday. The Lady Broncs play Whitefish Thursday afternoon.
