The Hamilton Police arrested 34-year-old Darren Taylor Walp following a 20-hour standoff at an apartment about two blocks away from Hamilton High School this weekend.

The standoff started about 11 a.m. Saturday when police approached the apartment, looking for Walp, who apparently was wanted in Powell County and in New Jersey. He barricaded himself inside the apartment and the negotiation by phone continued through the day and night until he gave himself up about 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Ravalli County Sheriffs officers assisted in the standoff. There were no injuries.

He is now in the Ravalli County Jail.

A number of residents in the area were evacuated during the incident and were allowed to return home Sunday.
