Those who take the Holiday self-guided tours of the Daly Mansion before Christmas will see some seasonal extras in the three floors of the classic building on the northeast edge of Hamilton.

The main entrance and porch have wreaths and swags to welcome visitors. Inside, a number of rooms are decorated to highlight different aspects of the holiday season. For instance, in the kitchen, it looks like someone left in the middle of creating gingerbread men, with the dough cut out on a baking pan and flour scattered around - even on the floor (photo below).

Also on the first floor, the master dining room is celebrating the preparation for a 1800's-style feast with immaculate table setting, a Christmas tree and a nice-looking mantel over over the hearth (photo above).

The music room around the corner provides a nod to the music of the season - well-represented by two vintage pianos that were donated back to the mansion.

On the second floor, the progression of St. Nicolas to present-day Santa Claus is presented in a gathering of Santa dolls. And, across the hall, a miniature Santa is peeking around the corner to see if you're being good.

The history of the Christmas Tree is the theme of one of the second-floor bedrooms, and on the third floor, at the very end of the southern hallway, is a room dedicated to a Hungarian Christmas, honoring Countess Margitt Bessenyey, a direct descendent of Copper King Marcus and Margaret Daly. (photo and below) The top of the Christmas tree in that room has representations of sparklers. European families reportedly would light the sparkling fireworks as part of the Christmas tradition. Of course, in the historic mansion, only non-sparking representations take their place.
