After a year off, the ever-popular "Jean Matthews Tuesday at 12" free concert series is making preparations to be back this summer. Russ Lawrence announced the lineup of musicians who are planning to entertain at the weekly hour-long concerts on the lawn of the Ravalli County Museum at South 3rd and Bedford in Hamilton.

The site is a popular gathering place every year, with the Saturday Farmer's Market on the adjacent streets. This year for the Tuesday events, Russ first connected with the groups that had been scheduled in the cancelled 2020 series and asked if they wanted to play this year. Then, he filled in the gaps with other local talent.

As of this week, the current plan is:

  • June 22 - Western Union
  • June 29 - Basses Covered
  • July 6 - Mara Luther and Ben Morse
  • July 13 - Who Dat!
  • July 20 - Josh Farmer
  • July 27 - Big Sky Mudflaps
  • August 3 - Cork & Spark
  • August 10 - Jenn Adams and Cove Jasmin
  • August 17- Bitterroot Community Band
  • August 24 - BitterSweet
  • The series is supported by many local businesses and private donors, continuing the vision of the late Jean Matthews to provide music during the noon hour in downtown Hamilton every summer. The concerts began years ago at the American Legion Park, across the street from City Hall. However, the tree-lined lawn of the museum a block away was an attractive magnet and the series moved there with performers on the ready-made bell tower stage (photo above), which contains the historic school bell from Grantsdale. So, bring your friends, your lunch and blankets or lawn chairs to Tuesday at 12, starting in mid-June, if the COVID conditions continue to improve.
