Missoula Police arrested murder suspect Christopher Newrider without incident at approximately 4:30 on Wednesday afternoon.

Public Information Officer Travis Welsh said Newrider was taken into custody and is being charged with deliberate homicide in the death of Sundance Hernandez.

Investigators returned to the Creekside Apartments on Wednesday where Newrider was taken into custody.

Earlier in the day, a weapon was located in the area where Newrider was last seen near the river. The weapon was found by a K-9 team from the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office.

Welsh said the Missoula Police Department is not looking for any other suspects in the case and that there is no further threat to the public, however the investigation is ongoing.

Missoula Police Chief Jason White is quoted as saying

“I cannot express enough our appreciation for all of our law enforcement partners and private citizens who aided in the effort to bring this search to a successful conclusion”, said Missoula Police Chief Jaeson White. ”We, as a community, will continue to work together to keep our citizens safe”.

Newrider is currently being held in the Missoula County Detention Center on $1 million bond.
