The Bitterroot River is being stressed by recent hot temperatures and an unusually dry June.

The recent rains have been welcome, but how much do they help? Those questions are among the many that experts are trying to answer this year.

Some of those experts will be at a public meeting of the Bitter Root Trout Unlimited Thursday evening, July 16, at 7 p.m. The sesssion will be at the Hamilton Elks Lodge on the 200 block of State Street.

Chris Clancy of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will be among the speakers, as will water commissioner Al Pernichele. They will outline the current state of the river and discuss options for recreationists and irrigators.
