A 7-mile stretch of the East Side Highway (MT Highway 269) south of Stevensville, will be improved in the next couple of years. the Montana Department of Transportation has two public information sessions to explain the "Stevensville Safety Improvement" plan and get feedback from residents. The "open house" meetings will be Thursday, November 21, and Thursday, December 5, at Stevensville's Morningstar Caffeine & Cuisine from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Missoula District Administrator Bob Vosen said, "Projects like these are designed to provide a safer roadway that meets the Stevensville community's unique needs. The only way we can fully accomplish this goal is by hearing from those who use the roadway every day."

The construction zone would be from North Birch Creek Road to Pine Hollow Road. The initial plan would widen the roadway by adding 4-foot shoulders on both sides of the roadway and flattening the roadside slopes. A new flashing signal would be added at the intersection with Bell Crossing. The design should be completed by spring of next year, with major construction starting in the Spring of 2021. Check the project website for more information.
