New Federal Grants Will Help Veterans Health Care Travel Needs
The Department of Veterans Affairs is implementing a series of grants to upgrade transportation services specifically for rural veterans.
Montana Senator Jon Tester announced the plan, which came from legislation he wrote and helped pass in Congress. He said in a news release that the money is reserved for organizations such as the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in areas with population less than seven people per square mile. Montana has an average of 6.2 people per square mile.
Senator Max Baucus and Sen. Tester also announced that the VA will be sending $700,000 to the Volunteers of America Northern Rockies for helping homeless and at-risk veterans and their families in Montana.
