The new Florence Bridge opened to traffic this weekend.

The approaches are still gravel, but paving is expected before winter, weather permitting. The old bridge will be dismantled, and plans are in place for foot and bike paths attached to the new bridge, which spans the Bitterroot River east of Florence on the East Side Highway.

Work on the road includes a new roundabout a short distance east of the bridge.

The Montana Department of Transportation is planning more work on Secondary 203 (East Side Highway), with an open house about the project Tuesday, October 7, at the Florence-Carlton School at 5 p.m. with a short presentation at 6:30 p.m.
