A new trail called the Palisades Trail will be constructed this year on the Beartooth Ranger District of the Custer National Forest.

District Ranger Traute Parrie approved the project following a public comment period, according to a Forest Service news release. The trail will connect Fox Lane on the edge of the town of Red Lodge to Willow Creek Trail #105 and the Palisades Campground. The trail is part of an 8-mile long city-to-mountain loop.

Parrie said work will include about a mile of new trail and one and a half miles of trail reconstruction, including trail treading, drainage and brush clearing.

Parrie was quoted in the press release that the project provides "additional non-motorized opportunities outside of the wilderness."

There will be some seasonal restrictions of dogs. For more information, call (406) 446-4587.
