No Injuries in Hamilton Shooting Incident
A 23-year-old man was arrested Saturday night, January 4, during an investigation of shots fired at an apartment complex on the northeast side of Hamilton. Hamilton Chief of Police Ryan Oster said officers were called to the area about 10:40 p.m. and heard gun shots as they arrived. They located and approached the apartment on Pintail Loop and heard more gunshots. Chief Oster said that they spoke to the suspect on the phone while he continued to fire. Bullets penetrated an adjacent apartment, but the occupants were not injured. Officers talked the man into coming out of the apartment and arrested him. Tyler K. Butler is now in jail, facing possible charges of attempted homicide, partner or family member assault, and assault with a weapon.
Chief Oster said Ravalli County Sheriff's officers and Montana Highway Patrol assisted with the response, and investigation is continuing. The crime scene was secured and witnesses are being interviewed. Butler will be in court this week.
