Thursday's Ravalli County Flu Vaccination Clinic brought in about 100 people to get their annual shot to protect against this year's flu variant. Angie Allen of Ravalli County Public Health told KLYQ News that the clinic October 17 at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds was also a test of the department's POD (Point of Dispensing) response to large health incidents - such as dangerous outbreaks. Allen said a community clinic like the session at the First Interstate Center at the fairgrounds would be recreated in various locations throughout the valley if needed.

If someone needs a flu shot, Public Health urges all people over 6 months of age to receive a vaccination before the end of October. There is also a "high dose" vaccine for those over age 65 that has a larger amount of antigen for better response against the flu. Public Health offices in the Ravalli County Courthouse on Bedford Street have walk-in flu vaccinations Wednesday afternoons, and vaccinations by appointment on Mondays and Fridays during business hours. Most flu shots are covered by insurance plans or Medicare.
