A 2-mill tax levy request to support the Ravalli County Veterans Service Center will be added to the June primary election ballot. The County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday morning, February 20, to put the measure before the Ravalli County voters.

Chairman Jeff Burrows told KLYQ/KGVO News that the center, located on North Third Street in Hamilton, already has a one-mill levy in place, but that's not enough. "What we've found is that we've got such a high veteran population that we just can't keep up with the demand with that one mill. We need to probably get another employee down there and beef up operations a little bit to fully serve the veterans here. So, that 2-mills should sustain us for a long time."

The Service Center often acts as support for veterans dealing with the Veterans Administration and other service-related issues. Ravalli County has a high per-capita population of armed services veterans.

After a short discussion about the wording of the ballot issue, the commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to put the levy before the voters for a "Yes" or "No" vote. The primary election is June 5th.
