High school students in the Missoula MedStart summer program had Rocky Mountain Laboratories and the GlaxoSmithKline facilities on the tour schedule this week.

The two Hamilton operations are part of the program for high school juniors and seniors who are interested in entering the health care industry. The week-long MedStart program is hosted by the University of Montana and includes presentations from UM campus professionals, including Laboratory Animal Sciences, biochemistry and anthropology programs.

Students will also spend two overnight sessions in Pablo to explore native culture and health history.

MedStart was known as "U-Doc" in 2004 at Bozeman's MSU campus. From 10 students in 2004 the program has grown to 73 students this year. Scholarships will be awarded to 63 of those high school students.
