A brief swearing-in ceremony in Butte this week brought Katie Stevens to the post of Manager of the Bureau of Land Management's Western Montana District. The oath of office was administered by John Mehlhoff, State Director of the Montana/Dakotas BLM.

Stevens most recently has been BLM field manager and National Conservation Area Manager in Grand Junction, Colorado, after starting her BLM career in Billings. The Western Montana District includes over a million acres of public land and almost 17 million acres of subsurface mineral estate. Stevens said in a news release, "Although multiple-use management can be challenging, I really enjoy the process of collaborating with our partners to find creative solutions and innovative paths forward." She replaces Richard Hotaling, who retired last year.
