UM Athletic Director on Brent Musburger Calling ESPN Game – Athlete Discipline [YouTube]
University of Montana Athletic Director addressed good news, and not-so-good news with KGVO News on Monday.
The good news? Legendary sports broadcaster, Montana native, and Montana Broadcaster's Association Hall-of-Fame member Brent Musbuger will be in the ESPN TV booth calling the Montana Grizzly- North Dakota State Bison game on August 29.
"He's got a good relationship with (head Grizzly football coach) Bob Stitt, so he called Stitt today and said 'Hey, I'm doing your game'. Bob asked if he could release that, and Brent said, 'absolutely', so Bob Stitt broke the news today. Brent Musburger is a sports broadcasting icon, and he'll be in the ESPN booth with Jesse Palmer."
Now, the not-so-good news. Two senior linebackers on the Montana Grizzly football team appeared separately on misdemeanor charges in the last week, Herbert Gamboa and Jeremiah Kose. Haslam said the student code of conduct addresses such issues.
"We have a student athlete code of conduct and it's pretty clearly spelled out, and we'll follow up on that. Obviously, we want to make sure that all of our student athletes are being great representatives of this university, but I also want to make sure the punishment fits the offense."
Haslam said the distraction comes at a most inopportune time, the day before fall drills begin for the Grizzly football team.
"You don't want to be talking about this at the opening of fall camp,' said Haslam. "We want to be talking about North Dakota State, our new facilities and other great stuff, but dealing with distractions is part of what we do. Will it affect eligibility and other questions will be answered through the student code of conduct."
The Grizzlies will host the four-time defending National Champion North Dakota State Bison on Saturday, August 29 at 1:30 p.m. inside Washington Grizzly stadium. The stadium is sold out for the game which will be broadcast on ESPN, and on KGVO AM 1290 and 101.5 FM, and the statewide Learfield Grizzly Sports Network.
