Strong winds with the approach of a cold front caused damage throughout the Bitterroot Valley Tuesday night (7/19). A long-standing Ravalli County Bank sign along US 93 in Hamilton was downed by the storm. Winds also felled trees in the Victor area, causing sporadic power outages.
The official temperature gauge at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds showed a temperature drop as the storm entered the valley at about 5pm from 85 degrees to 75 - a drop of 10 degrees in a half hour. Then, an hour and half later, the cold front whipped in, with the temperature dropping another 15 degrees in 15 minutes. From 715 to 730, the temperature went from 73 to 58 degrees. Rain, hail, wind - another exciting day in the Bitterroot.
